How to Prepare for Your Flooring Installation Day

June 2, 2026 · 4 min read

A smooth installation starts before our crew arrives. A little prep on your end keeps the project on schedule, protects your belongings, and gets you onto your new floors faster. Here's exactly what to do.

Room cleared and ready for a flooring installation crew

Clear the rooms

Remove small items, breakables, and anything on the floor in the rooms we'll be working in. We move standard furniture as part of the job, but clearing closets, shelves, and tabletop items ahead of time saves time and keeps your things safe.

Plan for furniture and appliances

Let us know in advance about heavy or specialty items — pianos, gun safes, aquariums, or built-ins. For kitchens and laundry rooms, we'll coordinate disconnecting and reconnecting appliances so nothing gets damaged.

Let the material acclimate

Wood and luxury vinyl need to sit in your home for a day or two before installation so they adjust to your indoor temperature and humidity. This step prevents gaps and buckling later — we'll schedule the drop-off so your floors are stable before we start.

Make a plan for pets and parking

Installation days mean open doors, power tools, and crew traffic. A quiet room or a day at daycare keeps pets safe and stress-free. Clearing a spot in the driveway near the entrance helps us load in materials quickly.

What to expect from us

We show up on time, protect your walls and trim, vacuum up after ourselves, and walk the finished floor with you before we leave. Questions before your install? Call (609) 377-4365 and we'll talk you through it.
